Harriet Thompson Elementary School will be implementing a pilot discipline program called Time To Teach. The purpose of the elementary pilot discipline program is to provide clear and consistent guidelines for a safe learning environment. In order to achieve this purpose, we need to teach and expect respect for self and others as well as insure the physical safety of all.
Students are responsible for their actions and need to be held accountable for their decisions. They need to know adults care enough for them to insure that they adhere to school rules. School personnel have a responsibility to confront students if they are acting inappropriately at any time during the school day. Rationale: - Rules and routines give students a feeling of security.
- Rules and routines reinforce the skills that every student must have in order to be a successful learner.
Inappropriate behaviors will result in ‘Refocus’ time. - First Refocus: student completes a form describing the inappropriate behavior and how they will make better choices.
- Second Refocus: student completes a form describing the inappropriate behavior and how they will make better choices
Parent/Guardian will be called.
***Note*** The Time To Teach program was explained and discussed in its entirety at our previous ‘Parent Information Night’ held February 7th.

This article is also available in English.

This article is also available in a versión español. If you’ve ever been in our parking lot, you know we have a serious lack of parking space. This can lead to severe congestion during the high-traffic times of the school day and can create a potentially dangerous situation. Thanks to your caution and cooperation, the congestion in our parking lot has drastically improved. We appreciate the efforts made to follow the new parking guidelines and the procedures for picking up and dropping off students. We realize these guidelines may be inconvenient to follow at times, so we especially appreciate your help in ensuring the safety and security of our children. Please continue to do your part to keep our parking areas free of obstructions so traffic can flow smoothly during the school day. - Please do not park in the bus area next to the school.
- When dropping off or picking up your child, please pull to the curb and let your child in or out on the side of the car that is next to the curb.
- When you need to get out of your car and go into the school, you must park in a designated parking place. For your convenience, we have moved 15 staff member cars to the back of the building to free up space for visitors to park in front.
- When exiting our parking lot at dismissal, please be patient as (all cars need to funnel into two exit lanes)we have 4 lanes of cars funneling through to one exit.
- Cars parked too close to the exit impede traffic flow. Thank you for parking below the parking lot exit lane nearest 2nd St.
- When entering our parking lot it is so important that we work together to fill all the parking lot spots first before creating lines of cars lined up that flow into the traffic.
- I understand life keeps us all busy and time is of essence. I cannot express enough how important it is for all of us to work together to ensure a safe parking lot dismissal.
- Please remember that our school is a drug free/tobacco free zone. This includes our parking lot. Please refrain from tobacco use on school property.
Thank you for your support!! |
