The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program helps schools stay open longer to provide youth tutoring and homework help, academic enrichment, college prep activities, technology education, supervised recreational opportunities, and services for youth with disabilities. These school-based community learning centers in each of the seven school districts will offer a range of academic and recreational activities for students. Services The 21st Century Learning Centers will provide children with a safe, enriching learning opportunities and individualized attention in the learning centers after the traditional school day. The program will offer a combination of services customized for the specific needs of each community. The Centers’ goals are: - To increase student academic achievement in reading and mathematics
- To increase parent involvement and English proficiency/literacy levels of parents

Student Council

Student Council consists of two classroom representatives from each fourth and fifth grade classroom. The representatives are also responsible for serving their “buddy classroom” which is another classroom in grades K-3. Student Council representatives conduct classroom meetings as well as plan school-wide service projects throughout the year. Student Council representatives meet weekly with the school counselor to address issues that are important to the students and the school.

Conflict Managers

This program is designed to teach conflict management skills to a select group of students. These students use their conflict management skills to help other children on the playground resolve disputes. Fourth and fifth grade students are selected to be Conflict Managers based upon their current skills and behavior. Students work in pairs on the playground before school and during the fourth and fifth grade recess. Conflict Managers meet weekly with the school counselor to discuss issues and problems that are happening on the playground and to review mediation techniques.
